We have painted the doors in the new house a gorgeous blue/black.
(Little Greene, "Basalt")
They look great, I love them. They used to be a sad grey before and I couldn't wait to change it. (I love grey, half my clothes are grey... just not that shade and not on a door!)
Anyway, do you know what looks good on dark doors?
Yes! a bright wreath!
First up was the back door (our house is on a corner and both doors are visible from the road). I guess when the house was first build this was the 'servants/delivery' door as it opens onto the boot room/scullery area - currently it's rugby boots and sports stuff room!
I dug out an old burlap wreath I made a couple of years ago, nice but plain,
and added a string of artificial little apples
and a glue gun... oh come on... who doesn't like a glue gun?
And voila', a brand new Autumn wreath:
It's a little too small... but it's the back door and it'll do for now. I find it difficult to find large plain wreath to decorate around here...
And then there was the front door, which is much bigger and definitively required a larger wreath.
...At this point you'll have to forgive the lack of 'during' photos as I was trying to sort out new tyres for my car at the same time and was somewhat distracted....
... anyway, I bought a large fake orange berry wreath from 'Home Sense' and a few other bits to add to it. I wanted a lot of large pinecones but they only had cinnamon scented ones and... no thanks... so I compromised
with more fake fruit and more burlap
And voila'...
Autumn, I'm ready.
Even if I have no tyres for my car...
Home.
Still jet lagged after three days. Up at the crack of dawn and in bed with the chickens (as my grandmother used to say), it would be fine if the rest of the family would sort themselves out. They don't.
At least the laundry is all done (if not all ironed).
10 days till we moved.
10 days that need to accommodate three cricket matches, packing for the boys and a trip to the airport to drop them off... and packing up the house.
Mild to Moderate hysteria might ensue.
All the books are in boxes. I wonder what the removal men will make of the writing on the box: "Books, red and pinks"... or "Books, blue ones". Whatever.
And the boardgames. The ones the boys deemed good enough to play... a lot of them went into the charity bag. Sad actually. I'm not ready for this growing up business, hey.. I'm not grown up yet myself.
Tomorrow I'll start tackling their rooms. That will be interesting.
The photos are random, I know. Please stick around. Normal broadcasting will resume as soon as humanly possible. I promise.
Lazy day
A long taxi ride took us away from Bangkok to a famous floating market. We knew it had become a real tourist destination and not much was left of the original produce market... But still, if you squinted and skimmed your eyes past the plastic and the cheap sarongs... You could still find a little magic. A little. (There are better less touristy markets around, but only on the latter part of the week we were told. If you ever go to Bangkok go Thursday to Sunday, it seems to be a much better time)
The gondola had me puzzled I have to say... (Being Italian and all..)
Until... It was mostly wet.
Ridiculously uncompromising unquestionably tropical thunderstorm kind of way wet.
Ankle deep wet.
Down to your pants wet.
Our shoes may never recover.
Pizza in the room at midnight was enjoyed by all.
And Liverpool won 4-0.
Hot hot hot. And oh so humid... Not the best weather to wear long trousers and long sleeves (me), but that was the dress code for the Grand Palace and we had no choice.
The boys coped brilliantly.
My travelling crew:
We also waited in the sun for this lot...
Yes, that is Henderson, the Liverpool football team captain... (Because I live with mad Liverpool fans who don't mind baking in the sun for a glimpse of their heroes...). They're on tour... And guess who's going to a football match tomorrow night?
Yep, us.
Sigh.
Anyway, we then made our way to the Big Buddha, which was indeed huge.
Looking for snacks we stumbled upon a small dried fish market... Appetising.... it wasn't!!
Very cowardly we retreated and snacks by the pool...
Change of scenery ... We left a not so warm England for some good old fashion Asian heat.
