In less than two weeks we're off on our big family holiday to Canada and I'm starting to panic.
We're all quietly very excited about it, but between now and getting that plane we have so many things planned that I honestly don't know if I'll make it with my sanity intact.
2 sports days
1 cricket tournament
1 hockey tournament
1 day hockey training away
1 hockey trainig
1 cricket training
1 summer ball
1 birthday dinner
1 bank meeting
2 parties
1 trip to Wimbledon
1 hair appointment
1 leavers concert
1 leavers service
1 final assembly
2 sets of people coming to stay on separate dates.
And the car needs a service.
You do the math.
Oh and don't forget the normal washing/ironing malarkey and feeding of the troops. I assume they'll still want to eat...
So today I'm doing what any normal ostrich would do and I'm hiding my head under the pile of laundry and I'm compiling instead a list of 'road trip song'.
This is where I'm at so far. Please feel free to add your suggestions. I have quite a few more country songs to add..
I'm also going to try to decide what 'project' to take. We have two long flights, an overnight/day train journey and many evening on terraces and porches to live through. This girl gotta do something right? Socks? They're the ideal travel project... but I have so many... and I have so many shawls...
Mmmmhhhh, think Monica, think.
Drive all night by Roy Orbison ... you might need to stay all night too with a list like that ... good luck!

Hmm, I guess I'm old.
Hope you have a wonderful time!

Oooh another Indigo Girls fan! I'd also suggest The Common Linnets and vintage REM. And you can never have too many socks or shawls ;) xx

Just discovered The Common Linnets have a second album. We have the first one from 2014, which we listen to quite a lot on drives. Will have to check out the second one now! xx

If you are coming to Canada you need some Canadian artists in there - Barenaked Ladies (If I Had a Million Dollars, The Old Apartment, Odds Are), Sarah McLachlan (Ice Cream, Monsters), Blue Rodeo (Try, Rain Down on Me), Tom Cochrane (Life is a Highway) Steppenwolf (Born to be Wild), The Tragically Hip (New Orleans is Sinking), Whitehorse (Devil's Got a Gun), Matt Andersen (Wagon Wheel) The Wailin' Jennys (Beautiful Dawn), Great Big Sea (When I'm Up, The Night Pat Murphy Died), Feist (Secret Heart), Safe as Houses (We'll Be Dancing), K'naan (Wavin' Flag), Good Lovelies (Free), Bryan Adams (Summer of '69), David Wilcox (Do The Bearcat, Bad Apple), Walk Off the Earth (Somebody That I Used to Know - it's a cover but worth the listen and please watch their videos), Alanis Morissette (Head over Feet, Ironic), Lorne Elliott (Morris the Moose, I Like You - listen first, tongue in cheek song, may not be appropriate for young children), Spirit of the West (Home For a Rest), Neil Young (Keep on Rocking in the Free World, Heart of Gold), k.d. lang (Hallelujah, Constant Craving)
Hope this gets you started. Also, if you like listening to family friendly stories check out Stewart MacLean's Vinyl Cafe - Dave and Morley stories -can find them on CBC radio podcast section. Our kids loved listening to him on road trips.
Enjoy! :)

Check out Home Free vocal band on iTunes or youtube. They're an a capella country group. Definitely worth listening to.

Golden Earring's classic song Radar Love.
Kind of naff but good at the same time.
I hope you don't collapse before you leave. I have palpitations just looking at your list......
