I don't know you, but I get really bored of cooking.
If I were really really rich I'd have a cook and someone to wash my hair everyday. Don't you just love having your hair washed? I'm digressing here.... food ah yes, food. My lot are not very adventurous with food. No salads (the odd leaf in a sandwich is vaguely acceptable. No tomatoes. Not everybody eats eggs. Or salmon. Or fish in general. Or steak. No zucchinis or aubergines. No avocados (wait... that's me). Not too spicy from one camp. More spicy from the other side.
Trying to find something that everybody eats is tricky. And boring. Deadly at times. There are moment that if see another piece of chicken I might lose the plot.
More than usual that is....
Sometimes I just don't care.
Sometimes I tried doing something new and keep my fingers crossed. Sometimes they surprise me and love the result - last night paella (with prawns!! I know... daring) was a hit for example. Who would have thought eh? I was ready for battle and all...
And sometimes they surprise me and don't love something I would have sworn they'd do.
For example last night, for dessert*, I baked Portuguese custard tarts from Bill Granger's everyday food. (Both recipe were on the same page... it's easy that way!)
I'd never made them before.
But these babies are gooooooooooood!
... even if they don't look very pretty...
(not sure how they're supposed to look)... trust me they very very very goooooooooooood!
And the boys didn't like them. Not one of them.
I did.
Unfortunately.
*don't be ridiculous I don't always bake things for dessert. More often than not I hold a gun to their heads and ask them nicely to eat a piece of fruit.
**I don't own a gun. It was a figure of speech. For dramatic effect.
Having someone to cook for me is my idea of hell! I look forward to cooking everyday (almost). I do see how difficult it must be when not everyone likes the same thing though. If it's any consolation I have found that the older they get the less fussy the become -in short, they grow up. Hoorah! Also if you are bored to sobs with chicken I can recommend Diana Henry's book A Bird in the Hand.

It is hard just cooking for us so I get why you get fed up with it! I do too! Bill Granger has some great recipes doesn't he, I have a few of his books and love them!

Oh how your writing pulls me in. So cooking. Yeah, not me either. I mean I CAN cook, I would just rather be doing something/anything else. And the only way I like salad is if there is enough stuff in it to make me forget that I'm eating LEAVES. haha. However, oddly enough, I love reading and collecting cookbooks. So weird...

Oh I know exactly what you mean, it's the same here. No meat for one. Or two. Fish for one. But never any cheese or mashed potato. No chilli! Sometimes they tell me they hate it before they've even tried it. Very occasionally everyone eats something and I sit there in total surprise. The custard tarts look delicious, I'd definitely like them. CJ xx

I agree--a cook and someone to wash and dry my hair would be my first choice of staff--total bliss! G has been begging me to make him Portuguese custard tarts for ages so must give these a try. xx

I only cook because we have to eat. It is not a pleasure, just a daily endurance test. And I'm so pleased that my family is not the only one where no one likes the same food. There are a few things we all love, shepherds pie, roast chicken dinner, slow cooked brisket. It makes summer cooking a tad trying!!
