... so after putting Mr M on a train back to the airport I jumped on another train in the opposite direction and headed to Rome.
I'd like to point out that I don't normally stomp around the country is this mad manner... it's just one of those things... and having my American sister (AFS student) over from San Diego to Rome meant that I HAD to go there. We see each other so rarely that any occasion must be grabbed with both hands.
This is us (I'm on the right). 30years ago she came to live with us for a whole year. She made me late for school every, single, day. We have opposite tastes in absolutely everything... she listened to Duran Duran non stop and I was and still am a big Bruce Springsteen's fan. She dragged me on a diamond tour of Amsterdam and I retaliate with the Van Gogh museum when we travelled through Europe for a month sleeping in a plastic tent. We got kicked out of the Louvre for eating lunch in their toilet. We got grounded by her parents after an all night party on Lake Michigan... We went to see REM, Spandau Ballet and U2. We can shop like it's nobody's business. I was her bridesmaid, she was mine. Our kids know each other too.
There was no way I wasn't going to Rome to see her.
30 years.
Geesh.
After a sleepless, very chatty night she went South with the friends she was travelling with and I jumped on a cab across town to visit the MAXI museum and pay homage to the late Zaha Hadid who designed the buiding a few years ago.
Genius.
It's a purpose built museum for 21st century art... not a straight line, not a right angle and initially it's quite disconcerting... there isn't a place for the eyes to rest. I realised how used we are to corners and straight walls, but after a while it feels intimate and calming and it's easy to focus on the art itself.
(the only square-ish room)
It was good.
Very good.
I was there for the building... I didn't have the time before my train to look at the exhibitions... it means I have to go back right?
... and then back on the road again... it was time to go rescue my parents from the boys.
Lovely Post , Hope You Enjoyed Your Adventures :)
