I'm starting to get a 'thing' for wooden spoons.
From the utilitarian kitchen variety to the daintily crafted ones.
But they need TLC, right? So after hearing about 3191 spoon oil for years I decided to give it a try.
Instructions and ingredients are here and I got all the necessary from Amazon. Basically all you need is natural mineral oil and natural beeswax; you melt/warm both in a bain marie and mix them together. When the mixtures cools down you rub it into your spoons/chopping boards/bowls with your hands.
Bob's your uncle. (Weird expression, that one)
After a while you rub off the excess with a clean cloth.
And you have beautiful wooden spoons utensils again.
I guarantee you'll love doing it. The house smells warmly of beeswax and it's a real tactile experience.
Go on... try it!
Well, actually, Bob's my dad LOL!
That looks pretty fun -- I've never oiled anything before. I'm thinking my cutting boards could use a little TLC. Your spoons are beautiful!

I think the Bob in question was Prime Minister Lord Salisbury and his nephew was Arthur Balfour - who also became Prime Minister after taking several important Government posts in his Uncle's cabinet. Bob was obviously a very useful uncle to have!

What beautiful spoons, and how lovely to see them glistening in the last picture. A great idea to make some oil for them, no doubt they will last for a long time.

that spoon with the handle going into the bowl is interesting, i never saw one like that before. does it have a special purpose ? it must be difficult to clean.
i just rub cooking oil on my wooden spoons and boards. usually when the boys have put them through the dishwasher once too often, tho' i do actually like the scrubbed look that gives them as well !

Question: what is a bain marie? Figured I would ask you rather than Google. Also, "Bob's your uncle" IS a weird expression. But this looks like a great idea.
