I did it.
I ticked one item off the "one day I'll do this" list (don't tell me you don't have one... everyone has...)
Boxed pouches are quite ubiquitous these days... Pinterest is full of them and I've had my eyes on them for a while... then yesterday I grabbed one of my favourite piece of fabric (ever) - from the super talented Heather Moore - and got going.
You need a long zipper (mine was actually longer than needed... but I cut it. Not recommended if you use metal zippers though - don't ask me how I know) and some fusible interfacing. I found a serendipitous piece of just the perfect size at the bottom of my shelf... medium weight I think it was.
Lots of narrow quilting lines because they're good for the soul (and the perfect accompaniment to Bob Harris country on the radio btw).
The tutorial I used is from Bonnie from Pink Stitches and if I had had my head screwed on the right way yesterday this would have come together very quickly. The quilting was probably the longest part. BUT I didn't... and me and the seam ripper had a lot of time together. (... "the seam ripper and I...? whatever)
Sigh.
BUT...
I did it. Pat in the back and incredulous look from No 3 when he got home ("you really did this?", I'm sure there was a compliment in there somewhere...).
There.
Now, what shall I put in there?
this is on my to do list, too!! it looks fabulous!! the print is great! (may i ask what it is?)

I've been bookmarking such similar online patterns myself but yours has turned out so spectacularly that I've pinned the tutorial you used and plan to try one myself, once I purchase a zipper. Really, Monica, fabulous! (Great choice of fabric, as well!)

Zippers scare me. So this is on my "way future" list.
It's gorgeous. And don't you love it when kids ask if you really made that? It IS a compliment.

Oh my word - that is really the most beautiful boxed pouch ever. You need something extremely precious and worthy to put inside.

Gorgeous work! I love the fabric too. I feel the need to add this to my 'to do' list!

So funny about the "you really did this" comment - as it you couldn't do it!! It is a beautiful bag and I really like the fabric that you have used as well as the way that you have quilted it, the effort was well worth it!! xx

Beautifully sewn!
And no, I haven't got one or seen one on Pinterest.
Is it lined with a contrasting fabric?

That's rather nice, and very neatly worked. I love the fabric - I've not seen that one before.
I'll pop over and have a look at the tutorial to see if it's something with my limited sewing skills could accomplish. These would make great end of year teacher gifts, filled with nice smellies.

I can't believe it's your first try - it's so lovely and neat. The handle on the end is a variation I've not seen before.
