To me the year doesn't really begin till the tree and all the decorations have been taken down and tidily put back in the garage and the kids are back to school. Then the house is mine again, it feels more spacious and light and my mind can focus on the hundreds of things in my head.
That day is today.
Two offsprings are packed away, the husband is in the office, the tree is half naked and the hoover ready to roll... (the big offspring is still at home but I'm sure I can barter some help in exchange for extra computer time).
Lilli and I will have a nice walk that won't include scooters/bikes/rugby balls/frisbies etc, and hopefully will find lots of lost things:
No 3 is fascinated by them too and thinks we should build a museum of lost things
and people can come and visit but they're not allowed to get their stuff back if they see it.
How sad that would be!
The weather hasn't been cold lately so our findings are few and far between. No need to wear hats and gloves...
***
I must go and reconquer the house now... wish me luck!
I'm one down, one to go. But the lost things are largely somewhere inside the house. I know there is a boot bag lurking somewhere - just have to locate it....

We live close to a very well-heeled bit of Edinburgh. A year or so back, someone had picked up a lost, wet and muddy scarf from the pavement/gutter, taken it home, washed and dried it, then returned it to the place of finding, and taped it to a lamp-post in a bag, with a big explanatory notice! My husband said 'that's the Grange for you...'
I always pick up lost things and put them on a nearby wall/railing/fence in the hope that their owners will reclaim them. I've never taken them home for a wash... actually, that's not true, I have picked up a couple of lost hankies and taken them home for a good wash, before adding them to our collection (we are a hanky family, no paper tissues for us)

Good luck! I still have my two for one more day so we are have a girlie day shopping and lunching. And then tomorrow I have to do my tax return. Oh joy.

I'm always curious about the lost things too...can understand gloves and mittens but how does anyone lose a shoe?

Oh, the joy of an empty house - I wish my lot would go back to school!

Did you ever see the video I posted once of two Scottish men in a frozen bus stop, rapping badly about lost gloves?

Oh, I know the feeling! Having the house back to yourself is the best.
It's amazing what you find that people have lost! My walks are never that interesting.
