This was the pattern that made me buy the book* .
I'm not sure what the recommended yarn was and at the beginning there was a lot of frogging and terrible language.
But we got there in the end.
I used yarn from my stash. Rowan pure wool aran for the flower petals. Noro silk garden for the flower centres. Artesano alpaca Inca Cloud for the connecting motifs. Sublime organic cotton dk for the handles. And is lined with what used to be a dark khaki linen top.
The result completely surpassed my expectations.
Now if you'll excuse me, me and my new bag must go shopping...

Gosh, you sorted out that lining issue fast - it's really really gorgeous.

I thought that looked like a Japanese book! Now I'm doubly impressed. I have a shelf-full of Japanese pattern books but can't make heads or tails of them... K x

Gorgeous! I've been eyeing that book for a while - japanese crochet books are just so lovely and I much prefer working from stitch diagrams rather than written instructions. Your bag turned out beautifully - I love the splashes of colour.

I love it! Must learn to crochet...after I learn to knit...after my kids grow up and leave home and I have more time - ha! Honestly, the colours are great together.

It is fab! I BET you have people stopping you to ask you where you bought it. You will be able to smile so sweetly when you say you made it!

Amazing! It is wonderful! I'd like to be able to crochet and once my nappy brain has passed I'm planning to learn.

It's brilliant! I'm almost tempted to pick up my crochet needles again (I've had some recent bad experiences with crochet!).

Please tell me where I can find the book!!! I loved Digging to America - what did you think? One of the ladies came up to me at the school gate today and handed me a book called The Gargoyle as she said she was busting to recommend it to someone and she thought of me - how nice is that! So I'm passing the recommendation to you too. It gets a good review on Amazon too!
