It's just gone 8am and I'm contemplating another cup of coffee, I can't seem to get going this morning... perhaps that hour a laid misteriously awake in the middle of the night is taking its toll. A small throwback of jet lag, perhaps. Who knows.
These past few days I've been getting up early to have breakfast with Mr M and No 1 whilst the other two are still tucked up in bed and I've been really enjoying this hour or so of silence and stillness. I wonder if it's a habit I could keep up... to get up before everyone else and plan the day/think/just stare at the birds in the garden type thing... Once we're all up it gets quite frenetic... where is my this and my that... I need a clean shirt... I ran out of socks... I'm not hungry... blah blah blah...
I need to sort out the paper work in my desk.
The ironing basket is full again.
We ran out of food.
Cricket training starts again this afternoon.
I must bake bread, and make soup for lunch.
I'd rather be sewing.
Actually, I have done a bit of sewing. Just a little, nothing earth shattering but I'd realised the state of our placemats (which we use every day three times a day) is pretty shocking, AND we need more napkins too. AND AND I have a room full of fabric.
One plus one equals two right?
Nothing worth writing home about but it means that at least two of us have two mats and all of us have new napkins. We don't fuss about colour matchiness... I like a mix best, when something is dirty it goes in the wash and something else comes out of the drawer... it's colourful... and stress free! (But we need more, many more!)
Working on placemats if always fun, this time I got to practice a new technique that allows me to machine stitch the binding; it's a bit fiddly but when it works it's soooo much quicker.
This is the reverse...
Basically you simply machine stitch the binding to the front, fold it tightly to the back (I gave it a good hot press to make it stay, some people glue bast it... haven't tried that yet) and then from the front you run a line of stitches along the folded edge. And voila'. (A certain amount of swearing might occur the first few times when you don't catch the binding on the back... just go with the flow)
And now the boys are up and the fun begin. Have a good Friday!
