It's finally done.
Some of you may remember that the top of this quilt was finished back in July. You can see the post here, but I knew when I did it that quilting it would have made it come alive...
"Italy" is one of their new ranges and the colours are amazing.
This laptop quilt came out of a pack of fat 1/4s. I simply cut all the fabric in 3" strips and then I randomly sewed them together in a wonky way (on purpose!!). When I had a piece big enough I cut up a square roughly on the diagonal and then again I put them together more or less randomly.
Hardly rocket science, but I wanted a quilt that let the fabric speak for itself. AND I wanted it not to be contrived, but free.... Italy is not a contrived country after all! Close up it's different than looked from afar... different fabric change according to the angle of the light and then again it's like my country... never what it seems, a little messy, colourful and suprising. Always beautiful.
The quilting doesn't always follow the fabric strips.

... but hey... when in Rome... (have you seen how they drive over there?)
