Clementine cake - from How to Eat by Nigella Lawson, via Ali.
Minus the sparkles she added.
You see, I was very very attracted by this cake... I loved the idea of boiling clementines for hours filling the house with their winter fragrance... I loved the simplicity of the recipe and the small number of ingredients...
What I don't love... is the cake!!
I just don't like the taste of cooked citrus fruits. Fresh? Anytime? Squeezed? Always. Cooked? Never.
It also confirmed that almonds are not my 'thang' either. I'm not the almond type.
So, as you can see we have a problem. The only two ingredients in this cake I actually really like are the eggs and the sugar... Clearly, this is an experiment NOT to be repeated.
The kids don't like it either, but hey, it doesn't have any chocolate so I wasn't expecting them too; No 3 said "it's yummy, but I don't like it". Whatever.
Mr M will take it into the office tomorrow and I'm sure someone there will eat it. Or he'll chuck it and bring the empty plate back without telling me and I'll be ignorant and happy.
(AND my house smells awful... like cooked clementines.... blah!)
